What is Cannabinoid?

Although CBD and THC are the most popular phytocannabinoids, there are a couple of additional molecules of importance in the Hemp plant. There are over 100 different cannabinoids that have been isolated from Cannabis to date, and researchers are still discovering new cannabinoids. At the end of 2019 scientists in Italy found 2 NEW cannabinoids: CBDP and THCP. THCP was found to have over 30 times more active than THC. It is important to note that different phytocannabinoids interact and bind differently at the receptors, which causes different reactions in the cells and ultimately in the organs where those receptors are located. Cannabichromene (CBC), which was first discovered in the 1980s, plays a role in the inflammatory process. Each Cannabinoid has been found to have different affinities for certain receptors and will create different downstream effects in our body.

What Is CBG?

Cannabigerol (CBG) is typically found in higher concentrations in younger Hemp plants and has been gaining a lot of attention recently for its effects on the nervous system. CBG works at the receptor sites of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) to prolong the effects of our natural endocannabinoids. CBG is the precursor to many other important cannabinoids in the Hemp plant and is considered the “mother of all cannabinoids”. It is CBGa (Acidic form) is that is broken down and turned into the other cannabinoids, including CBD and THC. It’s important to note that the Cannabis plant has specific phytocannabinoids depending on the state of the plant: Raqwvs Heated vs Aged.

When you heat (flame, bake, etc) you chance the molecular structure of the plant in a process called decarboxylation. For example, the non-psychoactive THCa molecule, which is found in the raw form of the plant, will turn into the molecule THC when heated and become psychoactive. The Cannabis plant has many properties in its raw/native form and a lot of people will juice the leaves for these health benefits. What should be starting to become clear is that this plant is very complex and offers a lot of different molecules that interact with the human body.
